The Aquarium Solutions and Hikari PraziPro is designed to treat parasitic diseases that include flatworms, flukes, tapeworms and turbellarians.
If this treatment is not working properly then you can check out this troubleshooting guide at Aquarium Blueprints to see what steps you can take.
1. To begin, make sure that the treatment has not been expired or spoiled.
2. You should also avoid using any activated carbon as this filter media will absorb PraziPro from the water column.
2. Furthermore, make sure you turn off your protein skimmer and/or UV sterilizer as these will also decrease the effectiveness of the treatment.
3. If you have a lot of fish wastes sitting directly in your tank or in your fish tank filter, then these mulm will also absorb the PraziPro from your tank water.
In this case, you can try rinsing your filter media, rocks and décor. You may also want to vacuum your substrate.
4. You should also make sure that you aren’t dosing PraziPro below the recommended amount.
According to the official directions, you need to be adding around 5 mL of this solution for every 20 gallons or 76 liters of tank water.
To see how can get the right amount for your specific tank size, you can check out this dosage calculation guide.
5. Moreover, you can also try increasing the frequency of dosing PraziPro. According to Aquarium Solutions and Hikari, you should be able to safely add PraziPro every 72 hours in your fish tank.
6. Before dosing this treatment, you need to do a water change of at least 30%.
If you decide to use tap water, then make sure you add a dechlorinator to prevent any chlorine and chloramine from getting mixed with your tank water.
It is very important to note that PraziPro is not compatible with dechlorinators that contain sulfur or sulfinite. If the ingredients isn’t listed for your dechlorinator, then you can try smelling it to see if it has a rotten egg or sulfuric smell.
For a compatible dechlorinator, you can use something like the Hikari Ultimate Water Conditioner (which is available on Amazon with this link) (#CommissionsEarned) when adding new water to your tank during a water change.
7. You should also make sure that the treatment period is at least 28 days in length. This is because a lot of the parasites that PraziPro treats have a lifespan of up to 28 days.
Therefore, the flatworms, flukes, tapeworms and/or turbellarians may re-appear again if you don’t treat your tank for at least 28 days.
8. Avoid using PraziPro with any other treatments at the same time as there may be compatibility issues.
Keep in mind some treatments will remain in your tank water. To completely get rid of the other solutions, we recommend using activated carbon and doing water changes. Afterwards, you can remove the activated carbon and then start dosing PraziPro.
