How to use API General Cure with Melafix

The API General Cure is designed for fish lice, gill flukes, hole-in-the-head, skin flukes and velvet. With the API Mealfix, you can treat eye cloud, fin rot, open abrasions, open wounds and mouth fungus. So, can you use General Cure with Melafix?

Can you use General Cure and Melafix together?

According to API, you can use both API General Cure and API Melafix at the same time without any issues as long as you dose the appropriate amount.

In fact, these two products should work well together as Melafix will help your fish recover from any secondary infections caused by fish lice, gill flukes, hole-in-the-head, skin flukes and velvet.

How to use General Cure with Melafix

In order to use these API treatments at the same time, we recommend taking the following steps:

Before you begin, make sure you remove any activated carbon or other similar chemical filtration in your filter as these will absorb General Cure and Melafix from the tank water.

Day 1:

On the first day of the treatment, dose both API General Cure and API Melafix.

When it comes to dosage, you need to add 1 packet of General Cure for every 10 gallons (or 38 liters) of tank water.

If your API General Cure comes in a bulk powder packaging, then you will need to add 5 mL for every 20 gallons (or 75 liters) of tank water.

For API Melafix, you need to dose 5 mL of the solution for every 10 gallons (or 38 liters) of tank water.

Day 2:

On the second day, you need to dose Melafix by the same amount as before.

Day 3:

On the third day of treatment, you need to dose both General Cure and Melafix by the same amount as before.

Day 4:

Dose Melafix by the same amount as before.

Day 5:

On the fifth day of treatment, you need to do a 25% water change. After completing the water change, add Melafix to your tank water by the same amount as before.

Day 6:

Dose Melafix by the same amount as before.

Day 7:

Dose Melafix by the same amount as before.

Day 8:

By the eighth day, do another round of 25% water change.

Changing the water should complete the treatment schedule for using both API General Cure and API Melafix.

After Treatment:

After treating your fish tank with both General Cure and Melafix, we recommend doing small daily water changes to slowly dilute the medications from your tank water.

You can also add activated carbon to help remove any lingering traces General Cure and Melafix in the aquarium.
