Fluval G3 and Fluval G6 are unique in that these filters come with an LCD screen display. With that said, the screens may eventually start to flicker or even completely stop working.
You can check out this guide from Aquarium Blueprints to see what options you can take if the LCD display stops functioning.
What is the HydroTech Performance Monitor on the Fluval G3 and G6?
The Fluval G Series comes equipped with the HydroTech Performance Monitor, which is powered by the NanoWatt XLP microchip flash microcontroller.
With this feature, you are able to set up maintenance schedule reminders for the mechanical filter cartridge, chemical filter cartridge as well as the biological filter media inside your canister.
The monitor will also measure the electrical conductivity of your tank water, which will help determine its total dissolved solids or total dissolved salts (also known as TDS).
Furthermore, these filters will keep track of the water temperature and pump flow rate as well.
The built-in LCD screen of the Fluval G Series will display all of these measurements in addition to alerting you if something appears to be wrong with either the water parameters or the canister filter.
Can you fix the Fluval G3 and Fluval G6 LCD screen?
Unfortunately, the LCD screen can’t be fixed or replaced if it starts to flicker, becomes detached and/or stops working completely.
While you can continue to keep using the G3 or G6, these filters won’t be able to display information on the maintenance reminders, electrical conductivity, water temperature, flow rate and other important notices.
It is also important to note that, if the LCD screen display stops working, then it may also indicate that the other parts of your canister filter could be broken as well. Therefore, it may be best to stop using your G3 or G6 if the screen is no longer functional.
If you want to continue using the HydroTech Performance Monitor, then you will need to get a new Fluval G3 or Fluval G6 filter.
If you purchased your canister less than two years ago, then you may still be under the 2-year warranty Fluval has for non-replaceable parts. In this case, we recommend contacting the company on their official website.
You are required to provide the serial number, which can be found on the back of your canister, in addition to showing proof of your purchase when registering your G3 or G6 with Fluval.
