How to update the firmware for Fluval Plant 3.0, Plant 3.0 Nano Marine 3.0 and Marine 3.0 Nano

The Fluval Plant 3.0, Fluval Plant 3.0 Nano, Fluval Marine 3.0 and Fluval Marine 3.0 Nano are smart aquarium light fixtures that can be updated with new firmware versions.

1. To begin, make sure you set up your Plant 3.0, Plant 3.0 Nano, Marine 3.0 or Marine 3.0 Nano.

The light should be placed on top of the fish tank and then be connected to the power supply, the power supply should then be plugged into the power outlet.

2. Press the power button until it displays a green light.

3. Next, you need to download the FluvalSmart App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your smartphone or mobile device.

To use the application, your phone or device needs to be running Android 4.3 or later or iOS 9.0 or later.

Your smartphone or mobile device also needs to support Bluetooth 4.0 or later.

4. After installing the application, open it on your phone or device.

5. If this is the first time using this app, you need to set it up.

6. After setting up the app, make sure that the Bluetooth connection on your smartphone or device is turned on.

7. You then need to press the “+” icon to start the pairing process.

8. During the pairing process, make sure that your phone is in close distance to the Plant 3.0, Plant 3.0 Nano, Marine 3.0 or Marine 3.0 Nano.

If it is close enough, the FluvalSmart App should able to detect your fish tank light fixture.

9. Once the lighting equipment has been detected, you can tap the Stop to prevent your phone or mobile device from scanning for any more lights.

10. You then need to make sure that the box next to light fixture in the app has a black check mark on a green background.

11. Tap the red circle with the white check mark to finish the pairing process.

12. You can finish the rest of the setup up by tapping the light fixture form the Devices menu. When asked for a password, then you need to enter “000000” (without the quotation marks). The password can be changed at a later time.

13. There are two ways you can get to the Device Firmware Upgrade menu from the FluvalSmart App.

The first is to select your lighting fixture from the Device menu. If there is a new firmware available, a cloud icon should appear on the top right side of the screen. You need to select the cloud icon.

The other method is to go to the Device menu and then swipe left on the row that has your Fluval light fixture. You then need to select the blue Upgrade box.

14. After getting to the Device Firmware Upgrade menu, select the “Press for Update” option located on the bottom left side of the screen.

15. The “Upgradable” pop-up menu should appear. Here, you need to tap Continue.

16. You then need to wait 20 seconds.

17. After 20 seconds have passed, you should be able to tap Next to start the firmware update.

18. During the update process, do not touch your phone. Otherwise, you may end up interrupting the update.

19. Once the update has been completed, tap Close.

If the firmware update failed for your Fluval Plant 3.0, Fluval Plant 3.0 Nano, Fluval Marine 3.0 and Fluval Marine 3.0 Nano, then you can press the “Press for update” option to try again.
