How to fix Bluetooth connection issues with Fluval Aquasky, Marine and Plant lights

When using the FluvalSmart app with your FluvalAquasky, Marine or Plant, you may have a hard time trying to connect to the light fixture.

Before we begin, it should be noted that this article will cover all versions of the following products:

  • Fluval Aquasky 2.0
  • Fluval Marine 3.0
  • Fluval Marine Nano 3.0
  • Fluval Plant 3.0
  • Fluval Plant Nano 3.0

1. The first step we recommend taking is to make sure that your smartphone or mobile device is compatible with the Fluval smart light.

The Aquasky 2.0, Marine 3.0, Marine Nano 3.0, Plant 3.0 and Plant Nano 3.0 require Bluetooth 4.0 or newer.

If you are using an Apple device, then it needs to be running iOS 9.0 or newer.

If you are using an Android device, then it needs to be running Android 4.3 or newer.

2. You should also make sure that you properly pair and update the firmware for your lighting fixture.

To properly pair and update the firmware versions for the Marine 3.0, Marine Nano 3.0, Plant 3.0 and Plant Nano 3.0, you can take a look at this guide instead.

4. If you are still having Bluetooth connection issues, then you can try moving your phone or mobile device closer to the fish tank light.

5. You should also make sure that aren’t any solid objects, such as a wall, that may be blocking the direct line of sight between your phone/device and the aquarium lighting fixture.

6. Keep in mind that other wireless devices may interfere with the Bluetooth signal between your smartphone/mobile device and the Fluval Aquasky, Marine or Plant light.

So, if you have any other wireless devices nearby, then we recommend that you turn off and/or relocate these electronics to see if you can get a better Bluetooth signal.

7. You can also make sure that you are following the correct sequence when it comes to the Bluetooth connection, which should be the following:

  • Open the FluvalSmart App on your smartphone or mobile device.
  • Plug the Aquasky 2.0, Marine 3.0, Marine Nano 3.0, Plant 3.0 or Plant Nano 3.0 into the power outlet.
  • Turn the light on. If you have a Marine 3.0, Marine Nano 3.0, Plant 3.0 or Plant Nano 3.0, you need to press the power switch until it turns green.
  • If you the light was previously paired to your smartphone or mobile device, then it should appear in the FluvalSmart App.

8. If you are still getting a weak or no Bluetooth signal, then you can try turning off the Bluetooth connection and the turn it back on again in order to refresh it.

9. Furthermore, you can also try turning on the Location feature if your phone or device supports it.

10. The Bluetooth issue may be related to the FluvalSmart App. If you believe that this is the case, then you can try deleting the application from your smartphone or mobile device.

Afterwards, you can download and install the same app again on the Google Play Store if you have an Android device or Apple App Store if you have an iOS device.

11. The Bluetooth connection issues may also be due to the power of the light fixture being cut, whether if it is due to a power outage or the light simply being unplugged from the power outlet.

In this scenario, try closing the FluvalSmart App on your smartphone or mobile device and then open it again to see if a Bluetooth connection can be established.
