Aquarium Solutions/Hikari PraziPro is used to prevent and treat parasites such as flukes, tapeworms, flatworms and turbellarians.
Dosing this liquid in your tank may make it cloudy, however. To see how you can make your water clear again, you can take a look at this troubleshooting guide at Aquarium Blueprints.
Quick Summary
To clear out the cloudy water caused by PraziPro, we recommend that you first complete the treatment procedure for your sick fish.
If you see your fish hanging out near the water surface more than usual, then we recommend increasing the water movement, especially at the top of the water line, to add more oxygen.
After treatment, you can do daily water changes and add activated carbon to make the tank water more clear.
How to clear out the cloudy water from PraziPro
1 .Before worrying about the cloudy water, you need to make sure you complete the treatment of your fish first as their health should be top priority when compared to how your fish tank will look.
For the uninformed, you need to turn off any UV sterilizer and/or protein skimmer in your aquarium. You should also remove activated carbon from the filtration.
Before adding PraziPro, you also need to do a water change of at least 30%. If you are adding tap water, make sure to use a non-sulfate conditioner like the Hikari Ultimate, which you can find on Amazon via this link. (#CommissionsEarned)
In terms of dosage, the recommended amount is 5 mL for every 20 gallons or 76 liters.
One dose should be enough for 5 to 7 days of treatment. After 7 days, you can continue treatment by doing a water change of at least 30% and then dosing the same aforementioned amount of PraziPro every third day.
2. The cloudy water shouldn’t cause any major healthy issues with your fish.
If you see your fish hanging near the top of the tank, however, then it may indicate the lack of oxygen in the tank water.
If you notice this behavior, then we recommend increasing the surface agitation of your fish tank.
If you have a filter, then you can try increasing the water flow and/or moving the output nozzle to above the water line.
You can also try using an air stone. If you already have an air stone, try increasing the air flow.
3. Once you are done treating your fish with PraziPro, you can take a more aggressive approach.
To start off, you can do daily water changes. We recommend swapping out no more than 20% of water at a time to reduce the stress level of your fish.
4. To completely get rid of PraziPro, add activated carbon to you filtration system. The microscopic pores will eventually get rid of all the water treatment solution, as well as the cloudy water, from your tank water.
