PraziPro is a treatment from Aquarium Solutions and Hikari that will treat diseases coming from the Phylum Platyhelminthes parasites, which includes flatworms, flukes, tapeworms and turbellarians. So, how long should you treat your fish with this product?
You can find out in this guide at Aquarium Blueprints.
What is the recommended length of time should you dose PraziPro?
A majority of the Phylum Platyhelminthes parasites have a life cycle of up to 28 days. So, even if you fish seems to be cured from the flatworms, flukes, tapeworms and/or turbellarians initially for a week or two, there is still a chance that they could be reinfected again if you don’t completely eradicate these harmful organisms from your fish tank.
Therefore, we recommend dosing PraziPro for 28 days to make sure that the diseases caused by the Phylum Platyhelminthes parasites won’t come back.
How to dose PraziPro for 28 days
In order to dose PraziPro during the 28 days of treatment, you can try taking the following steps:
1. Do a water change of at least 30%. If you are adding tap water with water changes, then you need to make sure that it is free of sulfur or sulfinite. For a compatible water conditioner, you can use the Hikari Ultimate, which you can get on Amazon with this link. (#CommissionsEarned)
2. If you have a dirty tank, then you might want to do a little cleaning as the organic wastes will end up absorbing PraziPro from the water column, making the treatment less effective.
3. After doing a water change, you should also make sure that you aren’t using activated carbon, protein skimmer or UV sterilizer as these will make PraziPro less effective and cause other issue.
4. Add the recommended amount of PraziPro into your fish tank.
To find information on the dosage amount for your aquarium, you can take a look at this post.
5. PraziPro should remain effective for around 5 to 7 days. Therefore, you won’t have to add another dose during this length of time.
With that said, Aquarium Solutions and Hikari have confirmed that you can safely add another dose of this treatment once every 3 days.
If you decide to add another dose, then make sure you do a water change of at least 30% beforehand to avoid a potential overdose due to having too much PraziPro in your water column.
If you accidentally did overdose this product, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article to see what actions you can take.
6. After 28 days have passed since you first started dosing this treatment, we recommend adding activated carbon.
This filter media, along with water changes, will help gradually remove remnants of PraziPro from your water column so that your tank water will return to its normal state.
