How to use Ich X and Stress Coat together

The Aquarium Solutions/Hikari Ich X is used to treat Ichthyophthiriasis is freshwater aquariums and Cryptocaryonaisis in saltwater aquariums. It is also effective against Saprolegniasas, Trichodiniasis and Velvet.

You can check out this Aquarium Blueprints guide to see how you can use this treatment together with the API Stress Coat.

Can you use Ich X with Stress Coat?

Before subsequently dosing Ich X in your fish tank, you need to change at least 33% of the fish tank water. If you are adding tap water back into to the aquarium, you will need to use a water conditioner to get rid of the chlorine and chloramine.

Most aquarium water conditioners, like the Seachem Prime, contain sulfur or sulfinite, which aren’t compatible with the Ich X as these compounds will make the treatment less effective in addition to depleting the oxygen level in your fish tank.

Fortunately, the API Stress Coat does not have any sulfur or sulfinite. As a result, you can safely use this water conditioner with Ich X.

How to use Stress Coat with Ich X

In order to use Stress Coat with Ich X to treat your sick fish, we recommend that you take the following steps:

1. To begin the treatment, make sure you remove carbon, or other chemical filtration that are designed to remove any medication, from your filter.

2. You can then dose Ich X into the fish tank.

The official dosage instruction is 5 mL for every 10 gallons or 38 liters your aquarium can hold.

3. Wait for 24 hours after the previous dosage.

4. After 24 hours have passed, take out at least 33% of the water volume.

Keep in mind that bigger water changes are better when it comes to the effectiveness of Ich X.

5. Next, you can dose Stress Coat into the tank.

For this water conditioner, you need to add 5 mL for every 10 gallons or 38 liters that your fish tank can hold.

6. Once you are done dosing Stress Coat, you can then refill your fish tank with tap water.

7. Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 daily until your fish no longer show any visible signs of Ich, Saprolegniasas, Trichodiniasis and/or Velvet.

8. If you no longer see signs of sickness, you still need to keep doing water changes via Stress Coat and then redosing Ich X for 3 more days to make sure that these diseases won’t reinfect your pet fish.

9. Once you are done with the Ich X treatment, you can add carbon or other medicine-removing chemical filtration back into your fish tank filter.

10. If you are not using carbon or chemical filtration, then the Ich X concentration will eventually be removed through subsequent water changes.

Ich X shouldn’t harm your healed fish after the treatment; therefore, you don’t need to immediately remove it from your fish tank after completing the treatment. Instead, you can return to your normal water change routines.
