When using the Fluval G3 or Fluval G6, you may get the following message on its LCD display screen:
“Alert. Temperature Out of Range.”
To see how you can potentially fix this issue, you can take a look at this troubleshooting article from Aquarium Blueprints.
1. The first step we recommend taking is to double check the temperature in your fish tank by using another thermometer if you have one in possession.
2. If the other thermometer is also showing the same, or close to the same, temperature, then the next step you can take is to make sure that the aquarium heater is working properly if the temperature is lower than the recommended range.
Most heaters will light up when it is heating the tank water. Therefore, you should see a light if your water gets too cold. If you don’t see a light, then you can try unplugging the heater from the power outlet and then plug it back in again. You may also adjust the targeted temperature on the heater a little bit higher to see if that will bring the water temperature back into range.
If you do see the aquarium light up, then we recommend waiting until it is done heating the tank water (at which point its light should go off) to see if you are still getting the same alert.
If you don’t see any lights and the water temperature is colder than expected, then we recommend picking up a brand-new heater as your current one is most likely no longer working.
3. If the thermometer is showing that the temperature is hotter than your targeted range, then you can try closing the aquarium light fixture if it is turned on. You should also avoid exposing the tank to any direct sunlight or putting it near any heat sources.
There is also a possibility that your either set the targeted temperature of your heater too high or the heater may have malfunctioned. So, if you still have the heater plugged in, we recommend unplugging it from the power outlet until the tank water temperature cools down.
If you have an aquarium chiller, then you should also check to see if it is working as intended.
4. If you are getting the alert even if the temperature appears to be within your recommended range, then you may have set up this feature incorrectly.
In order to check your recommended ranges, you need to take the following steps:
- Go back to the main menu on the LCD screen of your Fluval G3 or Fluval G6 Cansiter filter.
- On the main menu, go to Operation Settings.
- In the Operation Settings menu, select Temperature Points.
- Once you get inside the Temperature Points menu, you will see the current water temperature as detected by your canister filter.
- You can also see, as well as change, the minimum and maximum temperature.
- Last but not least, you can also choose whether or not you want the “Temperature Out of Range” alert to display on the screen whenever a potential issue with the tank water temperature is detected.
