What does a bubbler do in a fish tank?
A bubble is designed to add water movement in your aquarium. By doing so, it will help eliminated any dead spots in the water column and help with mechanical filtration.
This equipment will also agitate the surface area at the top of the water line. This will help add oxygen get into your tank.
In terms of functionality, a bubbler is the same as an air stone. However, a bubbler is a décor as you can get one that simulates an erupting volcano or one that is based on characters like Groot.
Do shrimp tank need a bubbler?
If you already have a filter running in your shrimp tank, then you most likely don’t need a bubbler. Cherry Shrimps prefer a light water flow, so the water movement provided from the filter should be more than enough.
If the filter is already agitating the water surface in your aquarium, then that should be enough to keep your aquarium oxygenated as well.
With that said, if you have a lot of bioload in your tank, then a bubbler may help. While Cherry Shrimps may not add a lot to the bioload individually, having a bunch of them crowded in the same aquarium could end up problematic. If you have these inverts in a community tank, then the fish and other species should end up spiking the bioload as well.
In this case, using a bubble will help with increasing the water movement and surface agitation. The extra water movement will help the tank regulate the temperature and water parameters while the increased surface agitation will bring more oxygen in the water.
