How to avoid overdosing your fish tank with Pimafix

To avoid overdosing your aquarium with Pimafix, make sure that you are adding the correct amount. According to the official instructions, you need to be adding 5 mL for every 10 gallons of tank water or 5 mL for every 38 liters of tank water.

It is also important to note that you will need to a 25% water change 1 day after the adding the 7th and final dose. If you decide to add more Pimafix after the 7th day without doing a 25% water change, then you may end having too much concentration of this treatment solution in your aquarium.

How to tell if you overdose Pimafix

If you aren’t sure whether or not you overdosed Pimafix in your fish tank, then you can observe your fish for any odd behaviors.

If you see your pets twitching, darting and/or gulping for air at the top of the water column, then these behaviors may indicate a potential overdose.

How to fix a fish tank that has been overdosed with Pimafix

In order to make your tank water safe again after it has been overdosed with Pimafix, we recommend that your take the following steps:

1. Remove a large portion of water in your fish tank.

If you are in the middle of your 7-day treatment plan, then you can try removing the water based on how much you overdosed Pimafix in your aquarium. For instance, if you added twice the recommend amount, then you need to do a 50% water change to get the Pimafix concentration back to the normal recommend level.

If you do not know how much Pimafix was overdosed in your tank, then you can simply try removing as much of the water as possible in your aquarium.

While a huge water change will be stressful to your fish, it is better for them than being exposed to a Pimafix-overdosed environment.

2. After removing water from the tank, add new water back into the tank. If you are using tap water, make sure that you use a dechlorinator beforehand to stop any chlorine or chloramine from getting into your tank waters.

3. If you see your fish gasping for air even after a water change, then you can try adding an air stone. If you already have an air stone, then you can increase its air flow if possible.

You can also try increasing the water flow of your filter and move its output nozzle to above the water surface to add more oxygen to your aquarium.

4. To completely remove Pimafix from your tank water, we recommend adding activated carbon as this filter media will absorb any impurities, which includes the aforementioned treatment solution.
