What to do when Pimafix is not working

The API Pimafix is a product you can use to help with sick fish who are suffering from body fungus, body reddening, cotton fin, cotton mount, fin reddening and other fungal diseases.

If this product is not working as intended, then you can take a look at this troubleshooting article Aquarium Blueprints to see what actions you can take to make the treatment more effective.

1. The first step we recommend taking is to make sure you don’t have any activated carbon in your fish tank filter or directly in your aquarium.

Otherwise, the carbon will absorb Pimafix from the water column, making it a lot less effective.

2. You should make sure that you tank water is clean as the organic wastes in your tank or filter will also absorb Pimafix from your tank water.

3. Moreover, we recommend that you keep your water quality pristine as elevated ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels will stress out your fish, slow down their recover as well as expose them to other potential diseases.

For the best water quality, make sure that the ammonia and nitrite levels stay at 0 ppm when you are using a testing kit to measure the parameters of your tank water.

For nitrates, you can try to aim for 40 ppm. If you are keeping very sensitive fish, then you need to keep nitrates to below 20 ppm.

4. Using expired or spoiled Pimafix will not only make the treatment less effective, it may also end up causing additional harm to the fish you are trying to treat.

To find out whether or not you are using expired or spoiled Pimafix, you can check out this article.

5. Make sure that you are dosing the recommended amount of Pimafix for your tank water.

If you added too little of this product to your tank water, then it won’t be as effective.

If you added too much, then this treatment will have an adverse effect on your fish. To see how you can quickly make your tank water safe again after an accidental overdose of Pimafix, we recommend that you take a look at this tutorial.

To calculate how much of this treatment you should be dosing in your tank, you can check out this dosage calculator article.

6. API also mentions that you should be doing a 25% water change after dosing Pimafix daily for 7 days in a row.

7. If you are using Pimafix with another medicine at the same time, then you need to make sure that you can use both at the same time.

For instance, API has confirmed that you can use Pimafix with Maleafix together without any issues. However, the company does not recommend more than two of any of their treatment products simultaneously.

8. You should also make sure that you are correctly diagnosing your fish as they may not be suffering from a fungal infection at all.

You can check the back of your bottle if you need help identifying what Pimafix is designed to treat.

9. If Pimafix is still not working at all after trying the aforementioned solutions, then you might want to consider using a more stronger treatment product as the natural remedy solution of Pimafix may not be strong enough to be effective against the fungal infections.

If you are looking for an alternative, then we recommend taking a look at the API Fin & Body Cure, which will treat a lot of the same diseases as Pimafix.
