In Glass Garten Mineral Junkie Bites any good?

The Mineral Junkie Bites from Glass Garten is designed to provide crucial minerals for your Crystal Shrimps, Cherry Shrimps, Crabs, Crayfish and/or Snails. So, is this pet food product any good? You can find out in this review article here at Aquarium Blueprints.

Packaging Size

The Mineral Junkie Bites can be bought in a container that weighs 50 grams or a container that weighs 100 grams. This review is based on the 100 grams container.

Expiration Date

The Mineral Junkie Bites has an expiration date. On our container, the expiry date can be found printed on a white sticker located at the bottom-side.

The packaging does a good job at keeping the food sticks fresh as it comes with an air tight plastic top that prevent oxygenation as well as stopping contaminants from getting in the container.

This Glass Garten product does not need to be refrigerated as storing it at room temperature should be good enough as long as you keep the container close when you aren’t feeding your pet inverts.

Ingredients

The food sticks are made of the following ingredients:

  • Minerals
  • Vegetable by-products
  • Cereals
  • Herbal extracts

Nutritional Analysis

As we stated above, the Mineral Junkie Bites compose of mostly minerals that keep the outer shell of your invertebrates healthy.

You can find the nutritional breakdown below:

  • 4.04% crude protein
  • 0.62% crude fat
  • 0.68% raw fiber
  • 27.08% crude ash

Feeding Directions

How much of these sticks you should be feeding your pets depends on what type of inverts you are keeping.

For shrimps, you should add 1 to 2 sticks daily for every 15 Crystal or Cherry Shrimps in your tank.

For Crabs and Crayfish, you should add 1 to 2 sticks daily for every crab or crayfish living in your aquarium.

When it comes to snails, you should add 1 stick per day for every 2 to fish snails in the tank.

Pros

The biggest benefit of the Glass Garten Mineral Junkie Bites is that it provides a great source of vitamins.

If you are keeping your Crystal or Cherry Shrimps, for example, then feeding them these sticks should help them molt better. Without the proper minerals, then these inverts could have a hard time molting and may even up passing away during the process.

Cons

The biggest issue we have with the Mineral Junkie Bites is that our Cherry Shrimps don’t particularly swarm to the sticks. This is especially true if there are other food sources available in the tank.

If you have any uneaten portion of these sticks, then they will end up causing spikes to the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels in your tank. Ammonia and nitrites can be especially deadly to shrimps.

Fortunately for us, we keep Ramshorn Snails with your Cherry Shrimps. These snails are more attracted to Mineral Junkie Bites and should easily clean up any leftovers.

Another problem we have with this product is that the sticks are a little too hard for our Cherry Shrimps to break apart. What we like to do is to crush the sticks with our fingers before dropping it into the tank. The smaller pieces make it easily for our pet inverts to consume the product.

Overall

While the Glass Garten Mineral Junkie Bites should provide a great source of crucial minerals for your Cherry Shrimps, this food product does not seem that appetizing to our pet inverts.

If you are looking for a product that contains important vitamins for your shrimps that is also appetizing, then we recommend taking a look at the Shrimp King Complete.
