If you have the Fluval M50, M100, M150, M200 or M300 Submersible Heater, then you can follow the instructions in this guide at Aquarium Blueprints to see how you can properly set up this product in your fish tank.
1. To start off, you need to put the M Series Submersible Heater in your fish tank. During this process, do not plug the heater in the power outlet at all as it is not designed to work outside of water.
When it comes to placement, we recommend that you put the heater fully underwater. Although the heater has a maximum water line it, has been confirmed by Fluval representatives that you can go above the line without any problems.
You should also put the heater as close to the intake of a filter as possible as it will help spread the heat across the fish tank quickly.
Furthermore, we recommend placing the M Series Submersible Heater horizontally. This is because the heat generated from this product will rise up. So, by putting the heater horizontally, you will be able to heat up more of the water.
Since the heat coming from the M50, M100, M150, M200 or M300 will rise up, we also suggest putting the heater as close to the bottom as possible in order to cover as much of the water volume as possible.
With that said, make sure that the heater isn’t lying on the substrate as the substrate may block some of glass surface. If your substrate is made of stones or pebbles that have sharp edges, then these may also damage your M Series. Therefore, you should place the heater an inch or so above the substrate.
From an aesthetic standpoint, you may also want to place the heater in the back or one of the side panels on your fish tank.
To recap, you should put the M Series Submersible Heater in a horizontal position at an inch above the substrate and near the filter intake. You may also want to put the product on the back or side panels in your tank so that you don’t block the front viewing panel.
2. Next, turn the dial of the Fluval M Series to your designed temperature of your fish tank.
3. Afterwards, use the included suction cups to securely keep the heater in place on one of your fish tank panels.
4. Once you have everything set up, you should now plug the heater into the power outlet. Make sure you create a drip log when you plug in the power cable.
5. You should see the M50, M100, M150, M200 or M300 light up, which indicates that it is currently heating up the water.
Once the desired temperature has been reached, then the light will turn off.
6. We recommend that you leave your heater alone for at least 12 hours after you initially turn it on.
Afterwards, you can check the temperature of your tank water and then re-adjust the dial of the M Series Submersible Heater if necessary.
