With API General Cure, you can quickly treat various diseases. So, is this product also effective against Ich? You can find out in this article from Aquarium Blueprints.
The API General Cure can treat fish lice, gill flukes, hole in the head, skin flukes and velvet. However, General Cure isn’t designed for Ich.
If you are looking for a product that will treat Ich, then we recommend getting the Aquarium Solutions/Hikari Ich-X.
You can either use Ich-X by itself if your fish has only been infected with Ich or combine it with General Cure if your fish is suffering from Ich as well as other infections at the same time.
What does API General Cure treat?
The API General Cure is able to help your pet fish fight against the following:
- Fish lice
- Gill flukes (Dactylogyrus)
- Hole-in-the-head disease (Hexamita spp. and Spironucleus)

You can either dose Ich-X by itself or used it together with API General Cure.
When it comes to dosing Aquarium Solutions/Hikari Ich-X by itself, you need to dose around 5 mL for every 10 gallons or 38 liters of tank water. To find out how you can calculate the recommended dosage amount for this Ich medication, you can take a look at this article.
When it comes to the treatment schedule, you need to dose this solution at least once every 24 hours (you can dose as frequently as once every 8 hours). Before each dosage, you need to do a water change or at least 33% (the bigger the water change, the more effective Ich-X will be at treating Ich).
You need to continue dosing Ich-X until you no longer see any visible signs of Ich. You should then keep dosing the medication for three more days to make sure that the infection won’t have any chance of coming back.
If you are also having issues using General Cure for other infections, you can take a look at this troubleshooting guide.
