Seachem’s Aquavitro Seed Aquarium Treatment is designed to add live beneficial bacteria in your fish tank that will help remove ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
So, can this product be overdosed? You can find out in this article at Aquarium Blueprints.
What is the recommended dosage amount for Aquavitro Seed?
If you are cycling a fish tank, then Seachem recommends that you add 5 mL for every 10 gallons or 40 liters of tank water for the initial dosage. Afterwards, you can half the dosage amount (dropping it to 2.5 mL for every 10 gallons or 40 liters of tank water).
If you are trying to rebuild your disrupted biological filtration and/or adding new livestock to a tank, then Seachem suggests that you add 2.5 mL for every 10 gallons or 40 liters of tank water.
What happens when you overdose Aquavitro Seed?
In a vast majority of cases, overdosing Aquavitro Seed by a little amount shouldn’t cause any issues in your aquarium as it mainly just adds live beneficial bacteria.
With that said, if you add way too much of the product in your tank, then you may not have enough ammonia, nitrites and/or nitrates to feed the bacteria, which may cause a massive die-off that could lead to water quality issues.
Having an over abundance of live bacteria may also deplete the oxygen levels in your fish tank.
How to tell if you overdosed Aquavitro Seed?
One of the ways you can tell that you overdosed Aquavitro Seed is to test your tank water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. If you noticed increases in any of these nitrogen compounds, then it may be due to a major die-off of bacteria in your tank.
We also recommend observing your fish. If you see them hanging out near the top of the water surface grasping for air, then it may be due to the lack of oxygen in your fish tank. You should also look for signs of ammonia and nitrites poisoning.
How to fix a tank that has been overdosed with Aquavitro Seed?
If you believe that you fish are suffering from an overdosed of Aquavitro Seed, then the first step we recommend taking is to do small daily water changes of no more than 20%. If you have ammonia, nitrite and/or nitrate spikes, then water changes will help dilute these compounds.
We also recommend using Seachem Prime during these water changes as it will help detoxify ammonia, nitrites and nitrates for up to 48 hours, keeping your pet fish safe.
If you think that overdosing Seed as depleted the oxygen in your tank, then we recommend turning up the water flow of your filter. If possible, you can also move the output nozzle to above the water line as doing so will increase the surface agitation needed to add more oxygen.
You should also add an air stone. If you already have one inside the tank, then you can try increasing the airflow as this action will help increase the oxygen level in your aquarium.
